IEEE Fellow、DCT发明者Rao教授应邀来我校进行学术访问与交流

应威尼斯9499登录入口石光明教授及我校国际合作与交流处的邀请,美国The University of Texas(德克萨斯大学)K. R. Rao教授于2015年5月31日至6月4日来我校进行学术交流与访问。
6月1日上午,Rao教授在主楼II区-227作了题为“HEVC-Tutorial”的精彩报告,报告会由威尼斯9499登录入口光电与信息处理系牛毅老师主持。Rao教授首先对视频编码标准的发展历程(包括MPEG和H.26x系列)进行了概述,随后介绍了HEVC的编码框架及其采用的新技术,并在压缩效率和运算复杂度方面对HEVC与H.264进行了比较,指出了HEVC编码标准的优点及面临的问题。最后,Rao教授总结了视频压缩编码标准下一步的研究方向。
在报告过程中,Rao教授和师生们围绕报告内容进行了学术讨论,并结合自己的经验向大家传授如何做研究。此次学术报告开拓了我校广大师生的学术视野,增强了学术研究氛围,给予了大家极大的启发和帮助。报告结束后,Rao教授参观了威尼斯9499登录入口航天电子信息研究所,进一步对本课题组的研究工作提出了很多建设性的意见和建议,并积极推进双方课题组的合作交流。


个人简历:Prof. K. R. Rao received the Ph. D. degree in electrical engineering from The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque in 1966. Since 1966, he has been with the University of Texas at Arlington where he is currently a professor of electrical engineering. He, along with two other researchers, introduced the Discrete Cosine Transform in 1975 which has since become very popular in digital signal processing. He is the co-author of the books "Orthogonal Transforms for Digital Signal Processing" (Springer-Verlag, 1975), "Fast Transforms: Analyses and Applications" (Academic Press, 1982), "Discrete Cosine Transform-Algorithms, Advantages, Applications" (Academic Press, 1990). He has edited a benchmark volume, "Discrete Transforms and Their Applications" (Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1985). He has coedited a benchmark volume, "Teleconferencing" (Van Nostrand Reinhold, 1985). Some of his books have been translated into Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Russian. He has conducted workshops/tutorials on video/audio coding/standards worldwide. He has published extensively in refereed journals and has been a consultant to industry, research institutes and academia. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
